Vacation in Beijing and Shanghai?

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Mabuhay from the Philippines! It’ll be my first time to visit Beijing and Shanghai this coming June. What should I expect? How will the weather be during that month? Any sites that I shouldn’t fail to visit? How’s the nightlife there? Bargain shopping? Tourist traps? Thanks.

Travel Tips! Ulanbaataar, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong?

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Travelling by train in April with stops at Ulanbaataar, Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Any travel tips on good bars, cafes, resturants, food markets, flea markets, cinemas, things to do etc while we are there.

We’ve all the major tourist sites covered, but were keen to get more information on things to do etc not in your usual guidebook.

Waibaidu bridge in Shanghai?

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

I’m planning to visit Shanghai and stay in the Astor House hotel. The hotel is right next to the Waibaidu bridge which takes you to the Bund, but some recent reviews said that the bridge is currently closed which means you have to walk 20 minutes to get to the Bund now - does anyone know if the bridge has re-opened, or when it is due to open? (I’m going there in May)

Which Disney princess will have a castle at Disneyland Shanghai (rumored to open ~ 2014)?

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Existing Disney castles are in parks near:
Orlando and Tokyo for Cinderella;
Anaheim and Hong Kong for Aurora (Sleeping Beauty);
Paris for Belle.
dougeebear -

Thank you for the correction. I forget where I heard that - I mistook the french word “belle” for the name Belle from Beauty and the Beast.

Looking for a General Manager for a 5 star hotel/resort/golf club in Xiamen or Shanghai?

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

My american husband, a Nicolas Cage look alike is working as a CEO/GM in a 5 star resort hotel in Asia. Very charming, intelligent and hardworking but the company he works for doesn’t give retirement benefits and no chance for career growth. He’s been an Executive Chef for 25 years for a well known 5 star hotel in US and is looking to relocate in Shanghai or Xiamen for a GM’s position. We have 2 kids ages 14 and 4 and I’m willing to relocate with him and possibly work in a hotel industry. Modesty aside, They say I can be mistaken for an Asian actress and with a degree in BS Psychology, I know I have good opportunities in Xiamen or Shanghai. I speak perfect english and understands fookien. I graduated from a chinese school and knows basic mandarin. Pls help me find a GM job for my american husband. He’s not getting any younger and his current job doesn’t have any retirement benefits. Any information about job openings in China will be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
